Renzo Frau was born in Cagliari in 1881 and, after military service in Milan, moved to Turin, Italy’s cultural centre. Initially, he worked as a sales representative. Later, following a stay in Great Britain where he discovered Chesterfield model armchairs, realising their potential, he began to import them into Italy. After discovering other European models and styles, he founded Poltrona Frau in 1912.

Renzo Frau died prematurely but left behind a vast legacy of projects, designs and ideas, which made the Poltrona Frau brand one of the leaders in the industry, in terms of quality, craftsmanship and innovation.
